David E. Allen was born in Terre Haute, IN in
1950. His childhood was uneventful except for
the set of oil paints he received for his
fourteenth birthday. He started to paint and has
been painting since.

It wasn't until Dave was forty-five that he started
to receive recognition for his unique paintings.
Dave is a 'city-scape' painter. Drive around
South Bend day or night, cold or hot and you
are likely to find Dave with his easels set up
painting scenes that others may find mundane
and ordinary.

Dave has shown his paintings throughout
northern Indiana and southern Michigan at the
South Bend Regional Museum of Art, the
Midwest Museum of American Art in Elkhart, the
Lubeznick Center in Michigan City, The
Carnegie Library in Three Rivers, MI and is
represented in several galleries throughout
Michiana.

In 2001, Dave, Mike Slaski, and Jackie Welsh
opened Studio Art Classes in South Bend with
the intention of offering art education to both
adults and children.

Studio Art Classes has evolved into Studio Arts
Center. Dave relinquished his administration
duties allowing him to concentrate on being an
artist, supporting himself with teaching and with
his work, which, as he says, beats working.
